How Our Nosara Surf Lessons Work

Our Nosara Surf Lessons are built around small groups, patient coaching, and real ocean skills. Each session starts with a quick land warm-up covering board handling, safety, and your goals for the day. In the water, your coach guides wave selection and timing while giving short, clear feedback so you improve fast and stay safe. Beginners ride soft whitewater to feel balance and the pop-up; returning surfers work on catching green waves, trimming, and basic turns.

Want background reading? See Surfing (Wikipedia). We teach by feel and repetition—more waves, less waiting, and instruction that adapts to your level. Cross-train next in our SUP Surf Coaching program to build footwork and flow after your Nosara Surf Lessons.

Best Time & Tides

We schedule Nosara Surf Lessons around the best windows of the day for your level—typically early morning for light winds and clean conditions. For beginners, gentle tides and smaller swell are ideal. Intermediates often benefit from a little push of tide to make catching unbroken waves easier. We always confirm time and beach the day before to match the forecast.

Check live tide timings here: Nosara tide times. Understanding tide movement helps you time paddles, choose takeoff zones, and stay safe.

Where We Surf

Most Nosara Surf Lessons run at Playa Pelada or Playa Guiones. Pelada offers friendly reforms and beautiful scenery; Guiones is a long, forgiving beach break with many peaks and room to spread out. On the day, we choose the spot with the best mix of safety and waves for your level. If conditions shift, we move—simple as that.

What to Bring

Bring a rash guard, reef-safe sunscreen, water, and a small towel. Boards and leashes are included, and we size equipment to your height and experience. If you have your own board, bring it—we’ll tune your setup and stance so your Nosara Surf Lessons translate to your everyday surfing.

Photos and videos are available as media add-ons; they help you see posture, stance, and timing. Many guests combine a private lesson with media on day one, then follow with a semi-private to reinforce the changes.
